Plytech Ghana Ltd's 9-stage manufacturing process combines industrial precision with skilled craftsmanship to produce consistent, high-quality plywood panels.
Carefully selected hardwood logs are received, inspected for quality and size, then passed through industrial debarking machinery. Bark removal and log conditioning ensures optimal moisture content and prepares the timber for efficient rotary cutting.
Conditioned logs are mounted on precision rotary lathes and peeled into continuous sheets of veneer at controlled thickness. This process maximises yield from each log while producing consistently uniform veneer sheets ready for drying and grading.
Green veneers pass through industrial roller dryers calibrated to reduce moisture content to optimal levels (typically 8–12%). After drying, veneer sheets are sorted and graded by quality, species, and thickness into face, back, and core categories for appropriate use.
Dried veneers are inspected for defects such as knots, splits, and holes. Our skilled technicians use patching machines and tape joiners to repair and edge-join narrower veneer strips into full-width sheets, maximising usable material and ensuring surface quality.
Veneer sheets are fed through mechanical glue spreaders that apply a uniform layer of adhesive — urea-formaldehyde for standard grades or phenol-formaldehyde for marine and exterior grades. Core and face veneers are assembled in alternating cross-grain layers to create dimensionally stable panels.
Assembled panels undergo a two-stage pressing operation. Cold pressing pre-compresses the panel and ensures initial veneer bonding. Hot pressing under precisely controlled temperature and pressure conditions cures the adhesive and bonds the veneers permanently into a single, strong panel.
Pressed panels are trimmed on precision saws to achieve accurate standard dimensions (4×8 ft, 5×10 ft, or custom sizes). Both face and back surfaces are sanded to specified tolerances using calibrated wide-belt sanders, ensuring smooth, consistent surfaces ready for finishing or immediate use.
Each completed panel passes through our rigorous quality control process. Trained inspectors assess dimensional accuracy, surface quality, bond strength, moisture content, and visual grade. Panels are graded and segregated into product categories. Only panels meeting specification are approved for sale.
Graded panels are stacked and bundled in standard units for storage and transport. Each bundle is stamped with product grade, thickness, dimensions, and batch information. Orders are prepared, loaded onto vehicles, and dispatched to customers across Ghana and international export partners.
